HOW IT WORKS: Day old baby chicks should arrive sometime in March. In August, students will select their three best pullets and bring them to the fair for judging. All chickens entered into the show will be sold, with proceeds being returned to the 4-H member. In addition to the auction money, 4-Hers will also receive cash awards. Plaques will be awarded to Grand & Reserve of Breed and Best of Show. Ribbons will be awarded to blue & red ribbon pens.

PLEASE NOTE: All applicants MUST participate in the 4-H Poultry Show & Sale on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the Rhea County Fair. Failure to participate will result in the forfeiture of ordering chicks next year.

A WORD OF CAUTION!: You should provide your chicks with shelter and water and feed them a balanced ration. If fed properly, each pullet will eat roughly 20 pounds of feed from the time you receive them until the day of the show. Please understand the costs associated with the project before signing up. Please do not register for chickens if you can not meet all requirements.
