4-H Horse Program

The 4-H Horse program is developed for individuals who have a passion for horses whether they own one or not.  These events take place throughout the entire year, so contact the UT Extension Office at 423-775-7807 or visit the UT Extension site to receive information as it becomes available.

Non-Riding Horse Activities

Horse Bowl & Hippology – Quiz bowl to test equine IQ.  Practices begin in November, competition is in January.

Horse Judging – Members learn the criteria for different equine disciplines and then attend 3+ judging contests in March, April, and August.

Horse Speech and Demonstration Contest – Individuals can create a speech or equine related demonstration and present it at competitions.

Horseback Riding Activities

Local, Regional & State Horse Shows – Any 4-H member who wishes to participate in any 4-H sanctioned shows MUST submit a horse enrollment form by March 1st of each year.  Members are then eligible for any and all 4-H sanctioned shows for the upcoming show season. Any member who leases a horse to show in any local, regional or state show must complete a Horse Lease Agreement and submit it by March 1st.

Horse Project Group – During weather permitting months, we are aiming to hold bi-weekly or monthly horse project group meetings to assist 4-Her’s with their equine partners.  Each meeting we will have a guest speaker to talk about their area of expertise. We will also work towards individual goals with our own horses.
